What my first hospice patient taught me who is now dead

The fluid motion of time

Does not go in a line

It tries to find

What alone cannot be found

That place where it is safe

To be

And in existence

One realizes that things doesn't always go

The way you thought it would

You fight so hard to make things right

But in the end we all die

Finding our own way in the fluid motion of time

Often necessitates adding tears to the fluid

That so beautifully sweeps away the thick layers of pain

To find what ultimately there is to gain.

A sense of self admist all of the choas

That entails living in a world

Where there are too many forgotten souls

Who try to get along in the foul reality

That they find themselves in

Not wanting that fluid motion of time

To be damed up in the hard times

They find themselves at an end

But alas it is their choice to live out their last days the way they want

And in their choice lies an empowering principle

We do not seek to change what they deem their reality is

We seek to affirm the life that is still left.

In so doing we give their reality a little bit of light

Though their light is dwindling

The soul to soul connection

Is not lost, humanity still exists,

If one chooses to see beyond the dying body into the eyes of eternity

One can gain a powerful gift

To see what life truly is about

The ability to give of oneself

As one helps another

There is a reciprocal gift

Another chance to see

The quiet every day miracles

That are all around

Found in a blessed state of gratitude.
